How fun to be playing up in Topanga again, with fabulous playwrights and works we received through Botanicum Seedlings‘ open submission process last fall! Seedlings took a year off from public readings in 2018, and it was such a pleasure to be back, supporting two new plays as part of our Summer Playreadings: SADIE’S DAY by Danielle DeCrette and THE DOG SHOW by Ivan Faute.

Loved working with these two writers dramaturgically, and what a blast seeing directors Elena Campbell-Martínez and Laura Stribling play in the woods, managing to do incredible things with actors after just a few rehearsals.
Many thanks and props to the actors involved – Bridgette Campbell, Aidan Elyse McCollough, Eve Sigall, Peter James Smith & Annette Davis; and Cathy Carlton, Conor Murphy, Xochitl Romero, Time Winters & Laura Wineland – as well as Quest Sky Zeidler who stepped up in amazing ways, and Ellen Geer and the many people at Theatricum who believe in supporting living playwrights and new voices in theater.

And a huge thank you to Elena who jumped in as Seedlings Literary Manager, and all of our fierce Seedlings Readers who were clever enough to select this year’s new plays for development opportunities! Truly, so grateful to all, and so looking forward to supporting six more playwrights in private GreenReads starting in August.
This is our 18th year Seedlings has been digging in the dirt at Theatricum, nurturing artists and new works for the stage the best way we know how. Here’s to many more years, many more new plays, and (hopefully!) a few Seedlings Angels to help keep us going!
