“Carry On” @ EST/LA

Was so delighted that my short, one-woman play Carry On was included in “The Early Bird Special” at EST/LA in Atwater Village the weekend of June 18 & 19, 2022.

This is one of those plays that’s kind of an accident. First drafted in 2020 during the early days of the pandemic, it was written after a call for plays to feature a suitcase and, well, grown up actors. Why not, right?

And as it happens, letting Carry On sit for some time in, shall we say, baggage claim while the world waited for the show to go on was a really nice thing.

So it was great to dive back in this year script-wise (many thanks to dramaturg Tony Foster, one of “The Early Bird Special” producers along with Stevie Stern and Tom Lazarus). And even better to collaborate in rehearsal with director Susan Franklin Tanner and the incredible Angela Bullock.

Carry On finds a woman of a certain age weighing her losses and what she carries—how she’s been carrying it—as she looks ahead at a new and uncertain leg of her journey.

It was performed as part of a program of plays that includes works by Tom Stringer, Deborah Pearl, Elizabeth Logun, Bill Charlton, Garrett Brown, Mary Portser & Mildred Inez Lewis.

I’m very grateful to have had this opportunity, and if you want to take a peek at the play which is very close to my heart (in so many ways), Click Here!
